SHF Space Architecture
SHF SATCOM Is Essential - It Provides:
- High Capacity - Two Way Communications
- Tie-in to Shore Infrastructure/DISN - via NCTAMS/STEP Sites
- Joint/NATO InteroperabilityAll with Worldwide Coverage (Less Polar)
Notes:
SHF (X-Band) SATCOM systems enable access to DSCS satellites, providing worldwide (less polar) high data rate duplex communications providing timely delivery of data, voice and video to afloat forces as shown here.
SHF SATCOM provides a a tie-in to the shore infrastructure and DISN - via the NCTAMS and STEP sites and it provides for Joint and NATO interoperability
- We currently have SHF SATCOM capability on our Fleet Flagships, Aircraft Carriers, large deck Amphibious ship, the mine countermeasures support ship and SURTASS platforms.
- Our next step is to expand this capability to combatants (CG, DD, DDG), combat logistics force ships (AO, AOE), LPDs and SSNs.
